Kindergarten Screenings

On Thursday, June 5th, North Adams Public Schools will host in-person PreK and Kindergarten screenings and registration, in preparation for enrollment in the 2025-2026 school year. This make-up day is open to families seeking to enroll children in either PreK or Kindergarten and were unable to attend the earlier March PreK/Kindergarten screening dates. 

All screenings will be held at Brayton Elementary School, located at 20 Brayton Hill Terrace, between 9 AM and 2 PM by appointment only. No walk-in appointments can be accommodated. To apply to enroll in PreK, children residing in the City of North Adams must be 3 or 4 years of age by August 31, 2025.  Children enrolling in Kindergarten must be 5 years of age by August 31, 2025. PreK students currently enrolled in North Adams Public Schools do not need to register for Kindergarten. 

New this year is a pre-registration system that parents/guardians can use to complete paperwork and upload required documents before the date of their scheduled appointment. After scheduling an appointment, a link to the pre-registration process will be sent directly to families. Those who do not upload documents through pre-registration must bring the required documents to their appointment.

PreK students currently enrolled in North Adams Public Schools do not need to apply again. Current Kindergarten students enrolled in North Adams Public Schools do not need to re-enroll.


Additional Information:

If they do not upload documents ahead of their appointment through the pre-registration process, parents/guardians should be prepared to bring all of the following to their appointment:

  • Child's birth certificate

  • Child's current physical exam/immunization record, signed by their doctor (must be from within the last 13 months)

  • Any additional medical records you think we may need (ie. asthma, food allergies)

  • Proof of residency (must have all of these 3 items)

    • 1. Valid driver's license or photo ID (passports are also acceptable)

    • 2. Copy of utility bill (electric, heat, cable, water, etc.) dated within the last 60 days

    • 3. One of the following: Recent mortgage statement, copy of lease/rental agreement, or letter from housing office

  • If applicable, please bring any legal/court documentation (i.e. sole custody, legal guardianship, name changes, adoption, DCF paperwork, etc.)
