See below for a list of Brayton 21st Century Afterschool Programs and their descriptions. Registration was sent home via backpack earlier this week. The program has limited space so please return the enrollment packet with your choices asap.

Brayton Afterschool Program Descriptions

Kids Under Construction: This program uses LEGOs® to develop creativity, problem-solving, communication and social skills. Students will work in small groups, taking on roles of engineer, suppliers, and builders as they design a plan and then create a structure. 

Problem Solving with Puzzles: Challenge your brain with creative activities! This program gets students working together at problem-solving and strategizing. Getting engaged in simple classic games promotes teamwork while practicing reading, writing, speaking and listening. 

Let’s Do Yoga: This yoga program will empower students to manage emotions and learn strategies to calm their nervous systems. A certified yoga instructor will lead students in the practice of balancing their emotions and having fun while doing it. Join for a relaxing end to the day!

Young/Outdoor/Nature Science Explorers: Students in this program spend time outdoors to explore the wonders of nature. Students will gather nature items to bring indoors to create nature projects. Along the way, students will learn to appreciate our local environment while engaging in scientific inquiry. 

Math Wizards:  Students in Math Wizards will learn how much fun math can be through a variety of number games and enrichment activities to increase student understanding in key grade-level skills. 

ARTcentric Berkshires: Join Berkshire Arts Center for artmaking that explores a number of different local artists, the ways they make art, and then try out those techniques on your own! Students will create lots of art, which will be displayed at the end of the program. 

Be a Team Player: First grade is the perfect opportunity to practice the skills needed to be a team player, which is a key skill in a 21st Century classroom.  

Let’s Get Artsy: Art programs in afterschool engage students in the using of many art materials such as tempera paints, watercolors, markers, art sand, play-doh and more! This program is perfect for the student who loves to be creative. 

PE Power Hour: Officer Mirante is back with her beloved Power Hour program! Students will play games, do team building, and have discussions about fair play. Students will practice the skills to be an effective team member and have lots of fun along the way. 

Learn a Game, Play the Game, Build a Game: In this program, students will not only learn new board games to encourage critical thinking, they will also design and build their own games to be played by peers at the end of the program.

Art, Games & More: This program is designed to get kindergarteners engaged in a variety of activities while learning to play together, be a good friend, and of course engage in kindergarten skills. 

Story & Project: Stories are everywhere in this program! Students will experience lots of different books and texts, engaging in follow-up projects to extend their thinking and to reinforce the components of both fiction and nonfiction. 

Plant and Animal Explorers: Love animals and plants? Join this program to learn more about those you may know about, and explore new ones to expand your science knowledge. Students will learn to ask scientific questions, research, and share findings. 

Let’s Make Friends!: This kindergarten program explores the meaning of friendship, while building collaboration skills. The focus will be on stories, games, and creative projects that explore this theme. 

Cultivating Kindness: Students in this program will explore the concept of kindness in their own world and through books, while working on projects that relate to the topics of the stories. 

Let’s Get Happy: Focused on social-emotional learning, students in this program will explore what it means to be a good friend, and all the various acts of kindness we can practice in school and at home.
