Illness Prevention

Illness Prevention

With the changing seasons, there is an increase in contagious illnesses due to increased proximity and closed windows and doors. Colds, flu, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), the latest variant of COVID, and strep throat are all recently diagnosed and prevalent in the community. Prevention continues to be a high priority with frequent hand sanitizing and vaccination at the top of the list of measures that you can take to protect yourself and your families. If your child does become ill, then rest, fluids, and fever-reducing agents, such as acetaminophen (Tylenol) until the symptoms resolve will prevent more serious infections that lead to needed medical intervention to recover.

Vaccination clinics for influenza and COVID boosters are being held locally at Colegrove Park Elementary School on Tuesday, October 3rd, from 3:00 to 6:00 pm, at St. Elizabeth of Hungary on October 4, from 3:30 to 6:00 pm and at Brayton Elementary School from 3:00 to 6:00 pm on Wednesday, October 18th.  Please register by scanning the QR Code on the flyers available on the district website at http://www.napsk12.org

The government is making four free test kits available to each family. You can register to receive your free test kits by going to https://www.covid.gov/tests. If you have old and expired test kits you have a higher chance of false positive and negative results, so getting new test kits for diagnosis of COVID will insure that you can get treatment for your symptoms within the required timeframe for prescription.
